Gov Adeleke suspends Osun Polytechnic Rector, appoints replacement

The Rector of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Dr. Tajudeen Odetayo, has been suspended by the Osun State Government. His suspension comes four months after his appointment by Governor Ademola Adeleke. The state government has also announced the appointment of Alabi Adeyemi as the replacement for the suspended Rector, Dr. Odetayo.

The announcement regarding the suspension of Dr. Odetayo and the appointment of Mr. Adeyemi were contained in separate letters signed by A. K. Jimoh, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education. The state government cited allegations of financial recklessness, corruption, misappropriation of funds, and abuse of office among the reasons for Dr. Odetayo’s suspension.

According to the letter issued by Jimoh, “You are hereby suspended as the Rector of the institution due to the serious allegations of financial recklessness, corruption, misappropriation of funds, and abuse of office, among others. You are required to proceed on suspension immediately while investigations into the allegations are commenced.”

The Permanent Secretary also stated that the appointment of Mr. Alabi Adeyemi as the Acting Rector was approved by Governor Adeleke. “This is to communicate the approval of the Executive Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, to appoint Mr. Alabi Kehinde Adeyemi as the Acting Rector of the institution. Mr. Adeyemi will assume the position while Dr. T.A. Odetayo is being investigated over the allegations of financial recklessness, corruption, misappropriation of funds, and abuse of office. The former Rector is required to step aside pending the conclusion of the investigations by relevant bodies. The appointment of the Acting Rector takes immediate effect.”
