The 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers will see the Super Eagles’ home fixtures taking place at the Godswil Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. This announcement was made by the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) following a visit to Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno.
The impressive stadium, which can accommodate 30,000 spectators, will also serve as the venue for the Super Eagles’ final 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Sao Tome and Principe on September 10, 2023. It’s worth noting that this stadium was the host of all the Super Eagles’ home matches during the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
The initial two rounds of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers are scheduled to take place between November 13 and 21. The Super Eagles find themselves in Group D, alongside South Africa, Benin Republic, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, and Lesotho.
The winners of the group will secure their spot in the 2026 World Cup, set to be hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Additionally, the best-performing runners-up will compete in a playoff for an additional qualification slot for Africa.
