Women journalists from the Ondo State branch of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, (NAWOJ), have called for regular checkups for women in order for them to live healthy lives.
The group also recommended women to set aside time for themselves to relax after a day of hustling and bustle, as well as to avoid unnecessary physical, emotional, and psychological stress that might elevate their blood pressure.
The advise was given by the association’s Acting Chairperson, Comrade Tola Gbadamosi, at the association’s ‘Women Health’ event in Akure, Ondo.
“Women should make time to care for their health, especially as they age, so that they have enough strength to meet the challenges ahead of them and sustain their homes,” she added.
In her remarks, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Adebummi Osadahun, urged women to prioritize their health and to remember their place in society since the motto ‘no woman, no nation’ has been altered to ‘no woman, no generation’.
“Aging in women is not a disease, but a natural phenomenon that is bound to happen to every woman,” Osadahun said, adding that women should avoid over-thinking to avoid a rise in blood pressure.
She asked NAWOJ to always invite men to participate in such programmes so that they (men) would be sensitized and realize why their wives were given specific care and allowed to get the right rest that they needed.
Speaking at the event, the state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Prince Leke Adegbite, urged women not to take their health for granted, but to make time for medical checkups on a regular basis.
