An operations manager of a renowned commercial bank in Abuja’s central business district was detained on Monday by Economic and Financial Commission operatives for refusing to load the bank’s Automated Teller Machines despite having N29 million in fresh naira notes in the branch’s vaults.
Before removing him for additional interrogation, the operatives ordered the filling of all ATMs and the payment of the specified amount over the counter, much to the joy of the devastated clients who had waited in line for hours without receiving the fresh notes.
The report says “More than five bank branches were covered on Monday by the EFCC operatives in Abuja, similar activities are undertaken in zonal commands across the country.
“The operation will continue until the banking system returns to normalcy.
“Nigerians who are having difficulty accessing their cash at any bank and suspect foul activity should contact the commission immediately.”
