The media team linked to the Office of Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu in Edo State has been dissolved by the state government. According to an announcement on Monday from Chris Nehikhare, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, the government has instructed the deputy governor to now approach the Ministry of Communication and Orientation to arrange media coverage for his office’s activities.
The official statement stated, ‘The Edo State Government has taken the decision to disband the media crew associated with the Deputy Governor’s Office. The Deputy Governor has been directed to henceforth coordinate with the Ministry of Communication and Orientation to organize media coverage for his office’s activities.’
The reason for this directive arises from an unfortunate incident during the colloquium commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Midwest Referendum celebration. The event took place at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and Soundstage. During the event, individuals claiming to be the deputy governor’s media crew attempted to enter the hall where the governor and other honoured guests were already seated. This action went against the established protocol for media coverage of the event.
Nehikhare commented, ‘The planned walkout and disruption, which appeared to be premeditated, is deeply unfortunate and is not in line with the approved protocol.'”
