The Emir of Katsina, His Royal Highness, Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, has expressed deep concern about the alarming increase in drug abuse cases in Katsina State. The respected monarch revealed that his palace received reports of over 74 incidents of drug abuse and addiction in just one week. One of the reported cases involved a drug baron who has already been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and is currently in their custody.
The Emir shared his concerns during a courtesy visit by a delegation from Save the Children International (SCI), led by its Turkey Head of Advocacy, Mr. Vahir kutluer, and his counterpart from Abuja, Ms. Edith Gumut. The Emir emphasized the need for urgent action to restore the state’s lost glory and urged SCI to lend a hand in salvaging the situation.
In particular, the Emir stressed the importance of instilling discipline and integrity in the youth, as he believes that the prevalence of drug abuse is a significant factor contributing to the state’s insecurity. He urged SCI to include the fight against drug abuse in their activities and campaigns, as it is a critical issue that demands immediate attention.
The Emir assured the delegation of his support and requested that SCI keeps the emirate informed about their initiatives and any challenges they encounter in the process. He emphasized that by working together and remaining transparent, they can easily address and solve the problems affecting the welfare of children in the state.
The delegation, led by Vahir kutluer, explained that their main objective was to seek the Emir’s blessings for the implementation of the child protection bill in Katsina State. They aimed to discuss the impact and challenges faced since the bill’s assent in December 2020, with the ultimate goal of better protecting the rights and well-being of children in the region.
