Construction workers narrowly escaped death when a two-storey building under construction at 17, Olanrewaju Street, Alausa, Ikeja, suddenly collapsed. Fortunately, no casualties were reported
Prompt action was taken by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service in Alausa, who swiftly arrived at the scene to manage the situation.
Late Tuesday evening, the building’s collapse transpired, likely due to the failure of its supporting foundation.
Margaret Adeseye, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, verified the incident’s occurrence and assured that there were no fatalities, asserting that the situation had been brought under control.
Adeseye clarified, “A partial collapse of the second deck of a two-story building under construction caused its supporting base to give way. This incident took place at 17, Olanrewaju Street, Alausa, Ikeja, near the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service headquarters. Our team was able to effectively manage the situation, averting further complications, as none of the construction workers were trapped, and they all managed to escape unharmed.”
In the meantime, the state government has cordoned off the affected structure in order to initiate a thorough investigation into the underlying cause of the collapse.
