As fuel and currency scarcity gradually paralyzed socio-economic activity across the country, President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) has been under pressure to find a solution to the problems that have caused tremendous agony for Nigerians.
Nigerians, including senators, governors, and youngsters on social media, are demanding that the President address the current naira note problem, which prompted violent riots in Edo and Oyo states last week.
The governors of the All Progressives Congress met with President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday in an attempt to persuade him to resolve the new naira notes problem.
In an interview with one of our correspondents on Sunday, Kunle Somorin, Chief Press Secretary to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, said his boss and other APC governors were in serious talks with the Presidency and the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, about the scarcity of new naira notes.
Abiodun, according to him, totally supports the other governors on the matter of the new notes.
“He (Abiodun) indicated he had taken it up with his colleagues at the highest level,” Somorin added. They are contemplating a long-term solution with the CBN governor and the Presidency, and relief will be available to our people within the next few days, if not hours.
He was in Abuja with other APC governors. He agrees with them on the matter.”
“That is why the governor has suspended his campaign,” he said, “since it does not make sense for him to be dancing when people are crying about a scarcity of fuel and insufficient access to exchange the old notes.”
