President Bola Ahmed Tinubu just signed the Student Loan Act today. “This is simply in fulfillment of his campaign promise that students would be able to obtain loans to attend school,” he explained.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, for his part, stated that the Federal Scholarship Board, which already exists, was starved of funds and required an enabling act to function properly, but that now that an enabling act is in place, the processes for hitch-free access to education loans will be much easier.
The 2023 Student Loan Act has been signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The bill was passed by the 9th National Assembly but signed by Tinubu on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja as part of measures to improve tertiary educational access and delivery.
Andrew Adejo, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, and Dele Alake, a senior adviser to the President, both said that the act will ensure that indigent students have access to loans to further their educations.
