Striving to enhance the well-being of aged persons in Nkwelle-Ezunaka community located in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, the founder and Spiritual Director of Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, a Catholic Priest known as Fr. Ebube Muonso, has initiated a program to provide a lifelong monthly stipend to over 300 elderly individuals from the community.
Fr. Obimma’s aim behind this initiative is to empower the elderly residents of the area, ensuring they can adequately care for themselves throughout their lives. Notable beneficiaries of this initiative include Elder Chris Eluemuno, a former Chairman of the Anambra State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, as well as members of the Nze na Ozo and Ogbuefi societies within the community.
The distribution of the initial payment of a monthly salary, amounting to N5,000, to beneficiaries aged 75 and above took place at the Afunwa Shopping Mall/Events Centre in Nkwelle-Ezunaka on a Wednesday.
Fr. Obimma, expressing his commitment to sustaining this initiative until his passing, stated, “The Bible tells us to support the needy, and in John 10:10, Christ proclaimed that He came to offer abundant life. I am aligning with Christ’s ministry, as He preached good news and provided for the less privileged.”
He further disclosed his intentions: “I have a special arrangement for their medical expenses, albeit privately. I will establish a dedicated account for this purpose. I have a special fondness for the elderly. I am resolved to continue this salary program for them until my demise, and I will document it in my will.”
In addition, Fr. Obimma shared his plans for the future: “I will establish an investment that generates income to support the elderly and the generations to come. I am grateful to my parents for providing me with an education, as education is an empowering tool.”
Elder Chris Eluemuno, one of the beneficiaries, expressed his gratitude, calling the endeavor a commendable and significant venture. He stated, “This initiative is remarkable, and I am appreciative of the clergyman. It reflects the fact that our Nkwelle-Ezunaka community has produced a true son. I am a beneficiary, being 75 years old, and I consider this initiative highly commendable.”
Various community leaders, including the President General of Nkwelle-Ezunaka Union and the chair-lady of the community’s IIyom society, expressed their approval of Fr. Ebube Muonso’s generous gesture and extended prayers for his well-being and long life.
Hon. Ubaka Onwuanyi, the manager of the elders’ salary scheme, praised Fr. Obimma for his assistance to the elderly and offered prayers for his continued protection and guidance.
Leaders from the Ogbuefi society, such as Ogbuefi Willy Ayadike and Chief Christopher Igwenagu, also voiced their appreciation for Fr. Obimma’s kind-hearted initiative and bestowed blessings upon him.
