Breaking: Atiku files 35 grounds of appeal against Tinubu at Supreme Court

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, took a significant step on Tuesday by submitting an appeal containing 35 grounds before the Supreme Court.

Atiku, represented by his legal team led by Chief Chris Uche, SAN, has requested that the Supreme Court overturn the judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal on September 6. This judgment had affirmed Tinubu, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as the legitimate winner of the presidential election that occurred on February 25.

Atiku argued before the Supreme Court that the decision rendered by the five-member panel of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, was not only flawed but also resulted in a significant miscarriage of justice against him. He contended that the PEPC panel committed a legal error by failing to invalidate the presidential election due to non-compliance with the Electoral Act of 2022. Atiku’s assertion was supported by evidence demonstrating that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had violated existing laws and regulations governing elections.

Additionally, Atiku accused the PEPC of arriving at a unanimous decision by misinterpreting and misrepresenting provisions in both the 1999 Constitution, as amended, and the Electoral Act of 2022.

Further details will be provided soon.
