The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has administered the oath of office to Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, officially recognizing her as the Senator representing Kogi Central.
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s election victory, which had been affirmed by the Kogi National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, was also upheld by the Appeal Court on Monday.
Her rival, Abubakar Ohere, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had initially contested her electoral win at the lower court but was unsuccessful. He subsequently appealed the decision at the appellate court.
The appellate court, in its ruling, confirmed the earlier judgment of the Tribunal, which declared Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), as the legitimate Senator of Kogi Central, having garnered 54,354 lawful votes, while Ohere of the APC received 51,291 votes.
The Clerk of the Senate administered the oath to her at precisely 11:41 a.m.
