Gunmen suspected to be bandits have perpetrated a tragic incident in Gara and Gamji villages, located in Burra District of Ningi Local Government Area, Bauchi State. The attackers arrived in large numbers and opened fire indiscriminately, resulting in the death of seven people, with several others sustaining injuries.
Ahmed Wakili, the Police Public Relations Officer for Bauchi State Command, confirmed the distressing event during a telephone interview with journalists. He disclosed that the security forces, in collaboration with the Nigerian military, confronted the bandits, leading to the neutralization of three of the attackers. However, some others managed to escape into the nearby bush, likely wounded.
The victims of this heart-wrenching attack were identified as Ali Usman, Shuaibu Adamu, Yunusa Adamu, Ali Alton, and Umar Sabo Ibrahim, all from Gamji village. A soldier was also injured during the engagement and is currently receiving medical treatment.
In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammad, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and pledged to bring the perpetrators to justice. Security forces and local vigilantes are conducting search operations in the surrounding area to apprehend the fleeing bandits.
According to an anonymous member of the Local Vigilante Group who witnessed the attack, the bandits arrived on Bajaaj motorcycles at around 9:00 pm on Tuesday, and the local security was unable to confront them, resulting in devastating consequences.
In a separate incident, suspected kidnappers also struck Yadagungume, where they abducted the wife, daughter, and driver of a prominent businessman, Alhaji Lawan Maliya, at approximately 3:00 am on Tuesday.
These incidents come shortly after the Bauchi State Police Command announced the rescue of ten kidnap victims in Ningi LGA, with two suspected kidnappers neutralized during the operation. The region remains on high alert due to the ongoing security threats posed by banditry and kidnapping.
