The authenticity of the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Kano Governorship Judgment has sparked debates. The Court of Appeal has addressed the matter, reassuring the public that any discrepancies were merely the result of a clerical error and had no impact on the court’s decision-making process.
Chief Registrar Umar M. Bangari, Esq. has provided an explanation, assuring that the clerical error will be promptly rectified once the concerned parties officially file applications for that purpose.
Mr. Bangari pointed out Order 23 Rule 4 of the Court of Appeal Handbook, which empowers the court to rectify any clerical errors upon discovery by the court or any involved parties.
In response to the Appeal Court’s decision that ousted him from the governorship, Abba Yusuf has now taken his case to the Supreme Court.
To recap, INEC initially declared Yusuf, the NNPP candidate, as the winner of the 2023 gubernatorial election in Kano. However, the state governorship election petitions tribunal nullified his victory, proclaiming Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner. This ruling was subsequently upheld by the Court of Appeal.
Interestingly, in a Certified True Copy of the judgment, the Court of Appeal seemingly directed the APC to pay Governor Yusuf N1 million, suggesting a favourable disposition towards the NNPP candidate.”
