Governor Alex Otti of Abia State announced that within the next one or two months, Aba will achieve independent power supply through the Geometric Power Limited’s power plant.
Otti made this disclosure through his official Twitter handle on Tuesday when he received a courtesy visit from Prof Bartholomew Nnaji, the Chairman of Geometric Power Limited and former Minister of Power, along with his team.
The Governor expressed his excitement that Aba will soon have a reliable power supply, thanks to the upcoming independent power generation.
He revealed that the State government and Geometric Power Limited have been in discussions with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited to address the issue of gas supply for the power plant.
“At the moment, we are purchasing power from the National Grid, which is why the power supply is not yet fully reliable. However, we want to assure the citizens of Aba that we are making progress, and we are getting there. The turbines required to power the electricity plant have been brought back to the plant after being sent abroad for maintenance and have been reinstalled,” Governor Otti stated.
He further explained, “We are currently working with the NNPC to resolve the gas supply issue for the plant.”
The Geometric Power Aba Limited, situated in Alaoji Aba, is expected to contribute an additional 188 megawatts to Nigeria’s electricity output.
