If elected president, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, has vowed to invest in the entertainment and creative industries to unify Nigeria and combat poverty.
Mr Obi is seen as one of four strong candidates for the presidential election on February 25th. Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party are also running.
Mr Obi talked about his vision for the entertainment sector as a guest at an Instagram live session sponsored by a prominent comedian, Ayo (AY) Makun, on Thursday.
The former governor of Anambra State stated that young Nigerians are highly enterprising in business, science, technology, entertainment, and sports, all of which he wishes to invest in.
Using athletics as an example of how to unify a country, Mr Obi stated that it is critical to invest in the country’s young entrepreneurs and creatives in order to lift people out of poverty.
“Ask them now; Brazil has utilized athletics to lift its people out of poverty. Countries have utilized entertainment to lift people out of poverty, and these are some of the things that connect the country. You might agree that Nigeria’s entertainment and sports venues are not too divided.
As a result, if we declare that we will secure and unite the country, we will support these places.
“So, if we claim to safeguard and unite the country. These are the areas we intend to promote. It has numerous applications that can be used to create the new Nigeria that we envision when we say a new Nigeria is possible. “These are places that need to be addressed, regions where new employment may be created,” he remarked.
