President Bola Tinubu on Monday, successfully resolved the rift between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. The meeting included key figures such as National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Deputy Governor of Rivers State Dr. Ngozi Ordu, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Hon Martin Amaewhule (a loyalist of the FCT minister), acting chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state Chukwuemeka Aaron, and APC caretaker committee chairman Chief Tony Okocha. Former governor of the state Dr. Peter Odili was also in attendance.
The resolutions reached at the conclusion of the meeting were signed by both Wike and Fubara. The agreements included the withdrawal of all court cases initiated by Fubara and his team related to the political crisis in Rivers State. Additionally, all impeachment proceedings initiated against the governor by the Rivers State House of Assembly were to be immediately dropped.
Furthermore, it was decided that the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, would be recognized, along with the 27 members who resigned from the PDP. Fubara was tasked with re-presenting the state budget to a properly constituted Rivers State House of Assembly.
The resolution also stipulated that the names of commissioners in the Rivers State Executive Council who resigned due to the political crisis should be resubmitted to the House of Assembly for approval. Notably, there would be no caretaker committee for the local governments in Rivers State, and the dissolution of the Local Government administration was deemed null and void and would not be acknowledged.
