Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s attempt to obtain President Bola Tinubu’s academic records through a United States court has been dismissed. The lawsuit, filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois County, USA, was withdrawn by Atiku before the scheduled hearing.
President Bola Tinubu claimed to have a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Chicago State University, which was confirmed by Beverly Poindexter, the staff responsible for transcript requests, enrollment, and degree verification at the university.
Despite the confirmation, Atiku, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, remained adamant that Tinubu’s academic records were forged. He had filed a lawsuit seeking to subpoena the university for various documents related to Tinubu’s admission, attendance dates, degrees, awards, and honors.
However, the case was dismissed without prejudice by Judge Patrick Heneghan on July 31, following Atiku’s withdrawal of the subpoena. This means that Chicago State University will not be deposed in connection with this case, and all matters before the court have been resolved.
