N35,000 wage award: You betrayed us, we’re suffering – Workers to FG

fg 1

The Federal Workers Forum (FWF) has expressed concern over the discontinuation of the N35,000 wage increment provided by the Federal Government to alleviate the economic challenges resulting from the removal of the fuel subsidy. On Thursday, the workers claimed that, contrary to the promised six months, the government had only disbursed payment for one month.

Comrade Andrew Emelieze, the National Coordinator of FWF, conveyed in a statement to DAILY POST that employees have been facing hardships since the fuel subsidy removal. Emelieze highlighted that despite the escalating cost of living and the current price of a bag of rice exceeding N60,000, the minimum wage has remained at N30,000 monthly.

He expressed astonishment at the cessation of the meager N35,000 wage relief initially granted to federal workers, emphasizing that only one month’s payment was fulfilled out of the pledged six months. According to Emelieze, federal government workers feel betrayed, perceiving their employer’s actions as unfair and unfaithful. He stressed that amidst the economic crisis, salaries have remained stagnant while the prices of goods and services have tripled.

Emelieze further lamented the financial strain on civil servants, noting instances of delayed salaries, blocked payments, and outstanding promotion arrears during a period when the cost of living is at its peak.
