Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has strongly condemned the killing of Mr. Zakari Maduka, a prominent figure within the Labour Party (LP) in the state, and has called on law enforcement agencies to apprehend the perpetrators.

This condemnation was articulated in a statement issued by Ferdinand Ekeoma, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, and was shared with the press on Friday.

The incident, in which Maduka lost his life, occurred on Tuesday night in Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area of the state, at the hands of unidentified attackers.

Governor Otti characterized the beheading of Zakari as an act of utter insanity, barbarism, and cruelty. Consequently, he implored security forces to expedite their efforts in bringing to justice all those involved, either directly or indirectly, in this heinous crime.

Expressing his sorrow at the loss of Zakari, the governor highlighted the deceased’s significant contributions, including his role as the Labour Party Campaign Manager in Uturu during the last general election and his active involvement in community efforts to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities.

Governor Otti lamented that Zakari’s life was tragically cut short just when he should have been enjoying the benefits of the good governance provided by the Labour Party government in Abia State. He assured the family of the deceased that the government would stand by them and provide all the necessary support.

Furthermore, Governor Otti reiterated his unwavering commitment to the safety of lives and property, not only in Abia but also in the entire South East region. He emphasized that this commitment led to the recent launch of a joint security task force known as “Operation Crush” in the state. He noted that this initiative has significantly reduced various forms of criminal activities, particularly kidnapping in the Lokpanta area.

The governor pledged that security agencies would maintain their vigilance against those attempting to establish criminal strongholds in any part of Abia, reiterating his determination to ensure the security and well-being of Abia residents.
